Typical Exterior Wall Systems
- The frame is comprised of wood or steel structural studs and track. The steel is
treated with a protective galvanized coating or equivalent.
- The studs and tracks are fastened together utilizing a mechanical and/or welding
process.
- For exterior insulation and finish systems
- refer to "ASTM Standard Practice for Application of Class PB Designation C-1397-98"
- EIMA "Guideline Specification for Exterior Insulation and Finish System Class PB, Division 7 Section 07240"
- EIMA "Exterior Insulation and Finish System Class PB Details"
- Specific installation instructions and procedures must be obtained from the manufacture supplying the materials and integrated into the project specifications
- For a direct applied stucco finish wall, there is a sheeting of Smartboard applied on the exterior
surface which is followed by a fibreglass mesh embedded in an acryclic base coat and is
finished with an architectural acrylic coat.
- All walls are mechanically secured to the concrete slab utilizing a combination of L-shaped
steel brackets at the base of the walls and steel rods strategically located (as defined by
engineering) inside the walls that are embedded 6" (150 mm) into the concrete.
- The walls contain insulation with poly vapor barrier.
- The interior surface may be finished with Smartboard or gypsum drywall. All seams and screw
holes should be resurfaced to a smooth and uniform finish and may then be painted with primer.
